Happy Valley School has participated in the Australian International Pedal Prix at Murray Bridge ever since the school's first machine was entered back in 1996.

This year, the event was held at Murray Bridge on 22nd-23rd September 2001. Once again, the school nominated two machines, the "Valley Viper" and the "Valley Vortex."  The Australian International Pedal Prix has become one of the highlights of the school year for those Year 6 and 7 students (and parents) who are prepared to make the commitment to the project..........and COMMITMENT it must be!

Before students and parents become involved in Pedal Prix, they are required to become familiar with exactly what is involved, and sign an agreement form that clearly sets out the "Criteria for Involvement." This includes:-

For Students For Parents
  • Availability on August 22nd-23rd
  • Availability for workshops
  • Prepared to improve fitness
  • Assist parents with fundraising
  • Attend minimum number of practices
  • Availability on August 22nd-23rd
  • Support Pedal Prix team
  • Attend training sessions
  • Support fundraising activities

Throughout the year, fundraising is an important part of Pedal Prix. This year, a number of successful fundraisers were held. They included:-

  • Bikeathon
  • Sausage sizzles
  • Special Lunch Order
  • Raffle
  • Film Night

Some of the features of Pedal Prix included the following:-

  • Tuesday night workshops
  • Early morning fitness training on Wednesdays
  • Kuipto Forest ride
  • Training at Mitsubishi
  • Practice at Murray Bridge
  • Presentations of T-shirts

One of the low points during the year was the theft of one of our cars from the Pedal Prix shed. The theft was reported in The Advertiser and fortunately the Valley Viper was returned undamaged to the school. The students and Committee were both delighted and relieved that this valuable asset was returned quickly. A newspaper clipping reports the story below.

Although there are many functions during the Pedal Prix year, nothing quite measures up to the actual Pedal Prix at Murray Bridge in September. For the entire two days, both students and parents come together in a fabulous spirit of cooperation, harmony and excitement. Both machines performed extremely well and both came through with relatively no technical problems
