During Week 7 of Term 3, the school conducted an Art Exhibition of art work produced by students during the Art Electives workshops held the previous week. The Art Exhibition was held in the Long Room, a double portable classroom recently converted into a single Music/Drama area. During the Exhibition, parents, students and visitors were welcome to  browse through the collection of "Art of Other Cultures."  The Exhibition was open both during school hours and also after school when students were able to show their parents through the exhibition. During the exhibition, students studied various aspects of the culture from which their art work was derived, as well as responding to the exhibition through observation and discussion.

The exhibition was tied into Public Education Week and National Literacy and Numeracy Week.  All teachers used the exhibition to help students understand the cultural contexts from which art is derived, analyse the artwork and provide their personal responses to it.  This is an important focus of our new curriculum framework.  When students are communicating their learning in the visual arts with the literacy skills of speaking, writing and drawing, they are making significant learning connections to the world around them.

The overwhelming positive comments about our world art exhibition reflect a view held by all that participated: that the electives program, which produced these great efforts, was fantastic.  Once again our congratulations go to our students, staff and parents who worked to create such an impressive array of art!

We would particularly like to thank Barb Williams and Heather Bath for their enormous efforts to organise and coordinate the electives and the exhibition.  A number of talented parents also contributed significantly by running electives and we wish to thank them all for their fabulous contributions.
