Our Student Representative Council is known as Kookaburra Council.  A student, elected from each class, attends Kookaburra Council meetings each fortnight under the guidance of staff members, Mrs. Yvonne Ridge and Mr. Brian Marshall.  Each student representative serves two terms on Council.  Students discuss issues raised at class meetings and make recommendations for consideration by staff and School Governing Council.

In addition to being a forum for student ideas, Kookaburra Council also organizes fun activities for students, including regular student discos and the very popular Casual Days. This year several charities will once again be supported by the activities of Kookaburra Council.

Over the years, many hundreds of dollars have been donated to organizations such as:-
                 The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
                 The Anti-Cancer Foundation
                 The Salvation Army.

Messages from our Student Leaders

"My name is Cameron Lithgow and I have been appointed as Kookaburra Council Chairperson for 2002. My job involves running meetings, organizing discos, greeting guests to our school, speaking at assembly and things along that line. I hope to be able to communicate with students and staff to help make sure that all things run well in the school."

2002 Chairperson, Cameron Lithgow

"Hi, my name is Caitlin Betts and I was chosen to be Secretary of Kookaburra Council for Happy Valley School. My job is to record the minutes of every meeting and then type, print and distribute them to all Kookaburra Council Class Representatives so that they can discuss student issues at class meetings. This year, I want to be part of a team that successfully achieves many benefits for our school."

2002 Secretary, Caitlin Betts

"My name is Josie Dimond and I have been picked for the position of Treasurer of Kookaburra Council for 2002. My job as Treasurer is to handle all money that is to do with Kookaburra Council. I let the school know how much money Kookaburra Council has, and how and when we are going to use it. I also assist the Chairperson and Secretary with their duties. This year, I will benefit from my position as it will help me learn to handle money, develop my group and leadership skills and enable me to make new friends. I enjoy working with all age groups."

2002 Treasurer, Josie Dimond

"Kookaburra Council continues to be a very successful means by which students at this school can influence school decisions and directions. Last year, some of the major activities which students contributed funds towards were: The Edible Garden Project, Operation Christmas Box, Fireworks at our Annual Christmas Evening, secure Bike enclosure.

On many other issues, students have had a strong voice through Kookaburra Council and we look forward to this year's leadership team and the class representatives all contributing toward further improvements in our wonderful school"

Principal, Brian Marshall

"Kookaburra Council is our Student Representative Council which is a very important aspect of a democratic school such as ours, where we value the contributions and decision making of students. Kookaburra Council is made up from an elected student representative from each class so our meetings involve students from Reception to Year 7.

Through regular class meetings and via their class representatives, each student in our school can make a valued contribution to the management of our school, and instigate changes that are important to them.  I am very pleased to be working with the students on Kookaburra Council and also the Management Team in 2002."

Staff Representative, Yvonne Ridge
