Happy Valley School
has promoted chess and supported teams in the Southern Primary Chess
League for many year. The Southern Primary Chess League has been organizing a chess
competition for primary school students in the southern area since 1982.
This year Happy Valley
entered a team in each of the two divisions. Students who
represented our school were:-
| Division 1 |
|
| Michael Eddy |
Sam Pater |
| Elliot Smith |
Nickie Hein |
| Cameron Grant |
Emma Hillman |
| |
|
| Division 2 |
|
|
|
| Kieren Smith |
Jack Price |
| Scott Goldfinch |
Matthew Hooper |
| Dylan Baines |
Morgan Mayne |
Inter-school matches
were held fortnightly throughout Terms 1 and 2. Both of our teams
performed superbly throughout the season. At the end of a closely fought
competition, both Division 1 and Division 2 teams finished on top. A
first for our school!
Congratulations to
every one concerned, especially to Parent Coordinator, Mark Smith whose
energetic enthusiasm provided a launching pad for the teams' success.

Special mention to Elliott Smith. Elliott
played at number one for the senior team throughout the season and was
undefeated. At a special presentation evening run by the
Southern Primary Chess League, Elliott was presented with the Val
Pylapenko award for his achievement. Congratulations to Elliott.
