Student Comments

During the celebrations, many classes visited theatres to see various performances staged especially for Come-Out. Here are a few comments from our students.

On Wednesday 12th March, my class went to the Odeon Theatre at Norwood to see three plays. They were called "Sharon Keep Your Hair On", Cafe Karaoke" and "The Cool Librarian".

I liked the music when Jason was building the house. Mr. Kuik was the Grandpa and Mrs. Bailey was the Aunty.

We went to see "Keep Your Hair On". Mrs. Alcock chose some children to be in the performance. She chose me. I was Bad Boy Brad."

Students raise their class flags in a spectacular
Come Out launch on the School Oval

"Come Out" is a youth arts festival, held every two years, in which children from South Australian schools are encouraged to participate in a wide range of Arts activities during Term 1.  Schools can either take part in individual programmes or come together with other schools to participate in parades, displays and other shared activities.  This year's theme was "Ripple Effect."

Year 4/5 students Declan, Mitchell, Taylah, Dayna and Amelia work on their flag.

For weeks leading up to the Come Out Festival, classes were busy using their artistic skills to design and create huge class banners. These banners  were unveiled on Friday 14th March during a spectacular and colourful ceremony on the School Oval. During the ceremony, students created various visual effects that rippled across the oval. Students and teachers also used a wide range of musical instruments to transmit sound ripples out over the oval.

The spectacular ended with everyone eating ripple ice-cream.  Without a 'ripple' of dissent from the students!

The flags were then displayed at the front of the school until the end of term. They will "come out" on significant occasions throughout the school year. Each flag is designed with a special message created by the teacher and students of each class.
