Chandler House was named after the
Chandler family who were one of the original families to settle in the
Happy Valley area.
Chandlers Hill Road is also named after
the same family, although they actually lived on Education Road.
The House of Mason is named after
Charles Henry Mason who donated two acres of land for the original
school on Education Road.
Charles Henry Mason was born on 25th
July 1861 and was a pupil at the original Happy Valley School.
The House of Nicolle was named after
another original family, the Nicolle family who were also one of the
first to establish themselves in this area.
Daisy Nicolle was one member of the
family who was an original student at the school. Some descendants still
attend the school today.
The House of Shepherd is named in
honour of Jane Shepherd who was the first teacher at the Happy Valley
School when it first opened on Education road (then Red Hill Road) in
1898.
The first Happy Valley School Sports Day was
held on the 7th April 1978 on the Happy Valley Oval.
