Music enjoys a high focus in the curriculum at
Happy Valley School. This has been the case for quite a few years.
Students in our school have opportunities to become involved in a wide
variety of musical programmes that exist at most year levels of
schooling. In addition to the School Choir and School Band, students
have the opportunity to learn a variety of musical instruments. Each
year, new initiatives are undertaken to strengthen the school's
programme in Music and the Performing Arts in general.

Early in Term 2 of 2003, the school was involved
in two musical initiatives that involved many students in our school. The first of these took place in Week 4 of Term 2.
Happy Valley School played host to a group of over 80 string students from our surrounding cluster of
primary schools.

Violin, viola and
cello students spent the morning participating in a workshop run by DECS
Music staff. The young musicians practised pieces that they later
performed to eight of our classes at an ‘end of workshop’ concert. This
was a wonderful opportunity for Happy Valley students to see and hear a
large string orchestra that included a group of their own classmates.

It was also good to
see the instrumental staff performing and role modelling their love for
music and playing.

The second event
took place on Monday 26th May. This was the first of our Music Nights
for the year.

school year.
The evening, which
was well attended by a large and enthusiastic audience, was once again a
great success due to the hard work of our instrumental teachers and
students. Their practice paid off with entertaining items from students
in year one to seven.
|
The excellent work of
our class teachers also showed in the confident manner in which students
took their positions and accepted applause. The band played, the choir
sang and musicians played a range of instruments including violin,
recorder, guitar, keyboard and piano. Year 7 student, Ashlee Randell,
made a very professional and confident compere for the evening.
