More about the
Country Fire Services

The following information is taken from the South Australian Country Fire Service Web Site.

The CFS grew from the days when farming families organised themselves into groups to confront bushfires (Wildfires) that ravaged their land and destroyed their livelihoods. Over the years the volunteer ethic has been preserved and training, equipment and expertise have grown.
Today, the CFS is made up of more than 17,000 people who volunteer their time to train and serve in a wide variety of emergencies. These people are based in 430 Brigades around the State from the foothills of Adelaide to far flung communities in bush, grass, rural and farm areas.
Men and women from diverse backgrounds have joined CFS to learn new skills and help others. They include farmers, accountants, butchers, teachers and shop assistants. You may not always see them in their CFS uniforms, but they're always on call, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
