Year 4/5 students involved in swimming lessons at the Marion Swimming Centre

Swimming is a very important part of Happy Valley School's Health and Physical Education programme. Our children live in a country in which the climate is ideal for outdoor recreational past-times, particularly activities and sports associated with water. And Australians love the water !

Once again, the Year 3-5 students travelled to the Marion Swimming Centre for a week of swimming instruction in mid-February.  Although the temperature on some days was unusually cool, the children made the best of the conditions and improved their water and safety skills considerably. Instruction at Marion is centred on students improving both their swimming stokes and their water safety techniques.

Happy Valley students are involved in swimming or aquatics at every year level throughout the school. As the children pass through each year level, they are exposed to a wide variety of swimming activities, usually during Term 1.  The following venues have been used in the past.

  Year Level

           Venue

Reception - Year 2 Noarlunga Aquatic Centre
Year 3 - Year 5 Marion Swimming Centre
Year 6 - Year 7 Pt. Noarlunga Aquatics Centre

The emphasis at each venue varies according to the age of the children. The overall aim of the programme is to develop strong, confident swimmers who are able to safely enjoy the fun and recreational water activities that are possible in our unique Australian climate.

When the children reach Year 6 and 7, they are exposed to some fantastic recreational activities at The Port Noarlunga Aquatics Centre.
