Championship sprint

One of the most popular events of our school year is the annual School Sports Day. This year's event was held on Friday March 26th and was well attended by a large group of parents, friends, relatives and ex-students.

Students enjoyed the friendly rivalry between the four School Houses, Chandler, Mason, Nicolle and Shepherd.  This rivalry has existed ever since the house system was first introduced in 1978.

The Primary School Sports Day (Year 3-7) is conducted on a participation basis with all children encouraged to take part in all events, except the Championship Sprints and Team Relays. These events are contested by the fastest runners from each year level.

Although the main emphasis is on enjoyment, improving personal performances, skill development, fitness and participation by all, the Primary section of the school (Year 3-7) competes in a House competition. All children contribute points to their House for each event in which they participate.

Junior primary students test their accuracy skills

Once again, the Junior Primary  used TriSkills for their activities (R-Yr2).  The feedback from staff, students and parents was once again very positive. The activities were based on skill development, fun and participation by all. Nevertheless, the students were very keen to succeed and they tried very hard to achieve their best.

Tension mounts !         School Principal, Peter Simmonds announces the final scores

2004 Final Results

This year's result was extremely close, with the leading House changing throughout the day. At the end of the events, when all the scores were added up, it was victory to Nicolle.

The school would like to thank all of the parents who assisted in any way on Sports Day. Without their willing support many aspects of Sports Day would not be possible. Parents help record, score, measure and time many events as well as assist in the canteen and stalls.

Congratulations also to the dedicated House Captains who worked so tirelessly in the weeks leading up to Sports Day. Their organization and leadership skills  were greatly appreciated on Sports Day itself.

Thanks must also go to all of the staff for their efforts with organization and scoring, and to Mike Lane (Groundsperson) for his outstanding work in preparing the oval for the day.
