2005 Primary (Year 3-7) members of Kookaburra Council

Our Student Representative Council is known as Kookaburra Council.  Two students, elected from each class, attend Kookaburra Council meetings each fortnight under the guidance of Head of Junior School, Judy Davies.  Each student representative serves a full year on Council.  At Kookaburra Council meetings, students discuss issues raised at class meetings and make recommendations for consideration by staff and School Governing Council.

In addition to being a forum for student ideas, Kookaburra Council also organizes fun activities for students, including regular student discos and the very popular Crazy Days and Casual Days. This year several charities will once again be supported by the activities of Kookaburra Council.

Over many years, thousands of dollars have been donated to organizations such as:-

  • The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation

  • The Anti-Cancer Foundation

  • The Salvation Army

  • R.S.P.C.A

  • World Vision (Kookaburra Council Sponsors a child in Ethiopia)

  • Tsunami Fund (Focus on children)

Messages from our Student Leaders

"Hi, my name is Louise Jesshope and I have been appointed as the Kookaburra Council Chairperson for 2005.  My job involves running the meetings, speaking at assemblies and organizing Kookaburra Council meetings.  My goal is to help people to be heard through the Council"

2005 Chairperson, Louise Jesshope

"Hi!  My name is Tash and this year I was appointed the Kookaburra Council Secretary. I basically record things said at a Kooka Council meeting and type it out later. I hope we have a great time this year, which I'm sure we will."

2005 Secretary, Tash Meyer

"Hi my name is Nadia and I am the Treasurer this year. I keep record of how much money Kookaburra Council has raised from casual days, discos etc.  My goal is that we raise enough money this year."

2005 Treasurer, Nadia Porter

"My name is Josh Fawcett and I was appointed as the Kookaburra Council Fund-raising Manager for 2005. My job is about organizing discos, crazy days, casual days and choosing the charities to sponsor. At present, I am trying to organize the first disco of 2005."

2005 Fundraising Manager, Josh Fawcett

"My name is Deni Varnhagen and I was appointed as the Kookaburra Council Sports Executive and Meeting Observer for 2005. My job involves helping out with any sports problems. So far, I have set up the table tennis and it is working well.  As the Meeting Observer, I will be watching at the meetings, and I will give a certificate to the two or three best behaved representatives at the meeting."

2005 Sports Executive and Meeting Observer, Deni Varnhagen

Message from our Staff Leader

"Kookaburra Council continues to be the way for students to influence school decision-making. Kooka Council reps meet fortnightly to discuss issues. Last year, some of the major activities in which Kookaburra Council was involved included fundraising and sponsoring a child in Ethiopia, organizing school discos, Crazy Days and helping at the Christmas Night celebration.

Through Kookaburra Council, students have also had a strong voice in relation to other issues, such as Edible Garden Mural, minimizing litter in the school, school uniform and school resources.  The leadership team has also hosted assemblies.  We look forward to the leadership team and class representatives contributing further to the development of our wonderful school."

Head of Junior School, Judy Davies
