Snorkelling was heaps
of fun. We saw heaps of fish; we also got to feed them. We
even saw a Gummy Shark.

At Aquatics we learnt how to
catch waves on the wave skis and paddle really fast. We
paddled on the other side of the reef. By the end of the
week we could all do 360 turns and master the surf. We had
a good time.

Bodyboarding was a great
experience! It was awesome to learn about the timing of
catching a wave and when to paddle. It was a really good
feeling when you caught a really big wave into shore! We
learnt where the rips were, how to spot them, how to avoid
them and how to get out of them. It was a really awesome
activity to do at Aquatics this year

Port Noarlunga
beach and the Okaparing River estuary
A perfect venue for the Year 6-7 Aquatics Programme
|
Swimming is an
important part of the Physical Education programme offered at
Happy
Valley
School.
Students are involved in swimming at all year levels from Reception to
Year 7. The overall aim of
the programme is to develop strong, confident swimmers who are able to
safely enjoy the fun and recreational water activities that are possible
in our unique Australian climate. |

Sailing |
Sail-boarding |
|
|
Our students are therefore
involved in swimming or aquatics at every year level
throughout the school. As the children pass through each
year level, they are exposed to a wide variety of
swimming activities, usually during Term 1.
By the time the students reach Year 6 and 7, they
are involved in a selection of recreational activities
at the Port Noarlunga Aquatics Centre.

The
jetty at Port Noarlunga
|
|
The venue is superb. A beautiful beach, a jetty, a
reef and a river estuary are all within a five minute walk. Here
specialist instructors guide the children through a week of activities
such as snorkelling, fishing, canoeing, surfing, wave skiing, sailing, sail-boarding
and body-boarding. |

The children
travel to Port Noarlunga daily by bus. It is a memorable occasion for
the Year 6/7 students who get to specialize in one particular activity
each year. It is one of the most memorable activities in the busy
Year 6/7 calendar. |
