Mr Mueller decided to have our own version of My Restaurant Rules called My Healthy Food Rules. He told us during the next week or so we would get into teams and make some food of our choice for the class to eat. The way Mr Mueller picked teams was the kids got into teams of 4-6 people then Mr Mueller would think of a city and one person from each team would stand up and the first person to stand up out of all the teams would get that team. The teams you could be in were Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane. Every team got a particular room to go to and decide who wanted to do what and what people were going to bring what food. On Friday everyone went to their areas to clean them for the following Monday. On Monday everyone went to their areas to give them a quick wipe over before they started to cook. When the parent helpers got there all the teams got cooking. Once everyone had finished preparing their food they put the food away and went and did something to pass the time. At ten to twelve all the teams got out their food ready for tasting. Mr Mueller told us which group's food we were trying first. We went and tried our first bit of food. After you finished eating you had to get a score sheet and score the teams for presentation, taste, nutrition and group organization. After everyone had tried all the food Mr Mueller gave us some bonus points and added up the score. The team that came First Adelaide, Second Sydney, Third Perth, Fourth Melbourne and Fifth Brisbane. It was a great day! Oh did I mention that our Healthy Food ruled! By Rebecca Jutilane-Maynard We have been learning about the food chart and what is healthy and good for us to eat. Mr Mueller announced that we will be doing a healthy food day and our teams would have to organise and prepare our food for a healthy cooking game based on the TV show My Restaurant Rules, but we called it My Healthy Food Rules. Each person was put into a team of 4, 5 or 6. The teams were called: Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane. Each day leading up to the competition, each team had the opportunity to organise and get their teams ready. We had a great time and the healthy food was so yummy! In the end Adelaide won! Thankyou to all of the wonderful parent managers; Mrs Hall, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Goldfinch, Mrs Nottle and Mrs Goudy. By Kristine Grigoris
This week we tried scrapbooking with our class and Mrs Mueller and Mr Mueller. Mrs Mueller started doing scrapbooking on Kiera, so she's really good at it. Mr Mueller hasn't done it before but he's already got a few ideas. First we had to pick out a few photos and put them on a piece of scrapbooking paper. Then we had to turn it into a frame by cutting off the piece of scrapbooking paper. After that we had to decorate the piece of paper by using buttons, eyelets, vellum, love hearts, scrapbooking paper, stickers and paper clips. When they were finished everyone agreed they looked really good. By Jacob Parker |

On the 11th April our class had a fantastic day scrapbooking. The materials we used were: eyelets, scrapbooking paper, vellum, cardboard, stickers, photos and different types of material. We had a lot of help from Mr Mueller and Mrs Mueller! It was a fantastic day and I will always remember it. They look brilliant so come in and have a look. Some of the subjects were: pets, family or friends. By Elise Hardwick This week our class has been doing scrapbooking. Scrapbooking is all about making your photos last longer and giving you more memories. To help us Kylie Mueller and Mrs Finan came in to help us. The material we used was eyelets, photos, paper, buttons, stickers, beads and vellem. We used special shape cutters for some paper shapes. Scrapbooking is much better than a photo album because it gives effect. Please try scrapbooking because its heaps of fun. By Aaron Finan
Year 7 parents please note that there was an error in the Year 8 enrolment coloured brochure "Starting Secondary Schools 2006" that is going out to families this week. Regarding Adelaide High School’s special entry Language program, the deadline was supposed to be 9th May, not 13th May as indicated in the brochure. Adelaide High School have widely advertised their program and the 9th May deadline. Also in the Year 8 Enrolment Handbook please note: Appendix 2: School visiting dates: Unley High School: 22nd May, 2-4pm, not as previously indicated.
It is never too early to start thinking about your child's future education Open Days are coming up soon at many secondary schools. It is worth having a look around before making your decision about your child's secondary education. Did you know that

The notice board in the courtyard houses brochures as they are sent from schools and further information is available from Barb Williams.
Tournament of Minds is a National Problem Solving competition for groups of students in Year 6&7. Secondary schools can also be involved in a similar process. Students are selected based on their ability to work co-operatively, think creatively and confidently present their solution to a given challenge in the area of Language & Literature, Social Science or Mathematics. The State presentations will be held at Flinders University in September and already a group of eager students is meeting on Thursdays at lunchtimes to practise thinking laterally, communicating with each other and to develop their confidence in performing. Once selected, the team will work on a given challenge without assistance and their resulting performance will show their research and imagination in finding a solution.

Any
items, which we could use, would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,
Judy Davies. (on behalf of Fundraising Subcommittee) Fundraising Subcommittee.
Students have been working with our resident artist Debby Haskaard-Strauss to prepare the panels for the mural, which will be going on the wall in the garden area. All the background painting has been done and the larger detail has also been added to most of the panels. The students have done a fantastic job and the theme of 'Healthy Lifestyles' is emerging on the panels in bright colours and exciting detail. Debby is now working on the small detail parts of the mural and she would really appreciate help from any adults who are interested in painting. Previous experience is not necessary but a steady hand would be an asset! These finishing off workshops could be during the day or on a Thursday evening. If you are interested in helping contact Debby Haskaard Strauss or Wendy Nicolle at the school. We hope the mural will be ready to put up on the wall early next term.

Over the year, a number of the groups in our school fundraise to support the variety of projects that happen in our school. The main groups to fundraise are Kookaburra Council through their casual days and student discos, Pedal Prix to fund the whole Pedal Prix program, Parent Club, and the Governing Council Fundraising Committee. The fundraising roles of the last two groups is not so well understood by parents. Parent Club fundraise to improve the amenities and learning resources of the school. Over the years, Parent Club have funded shade structures around the school, curtaining projects, refurbishment of the sick rooms, drama blocks and student learning resources. Their most recent project has been to purchase timber outdoor furniture for the canteen courtyard. Our school would be much poorer if it wasn’t for the hard work and generosity of Parent Club, through their cake stalls, raffles, gift stalls, slice drives and their management of the school photos. The projects funded by Parent Club are decided on by Parent Club, in consultation with school staff. The school Fundraising Committee, a subcommittee of Governing Council, has a different function. Each year, as part of the school budgeting process, an amount is agreed on that needs to be raised, to go into the school budget, to enable the school to meet all its costs for that year. This figure is published at the Annual General Meeting in the budget report, and it is then the responsibility of the Fundraising Committee to raise that amount of money over the course of the year. Money raised goes in to general revenue, and unlike the Parent Club money, is not targeted at specific projects. It is critical, however, to the success of the school, to raise this money as it directly impacts on the school learning program. At the moment the Fundraising Committee is selling football memorabilia lucky squares, which are on sale in the school each morning. There are plans also to run an Obstacle-a-thon, a Quiz Night, a Chocolate Drive and a Gala Day amongst other things. We hope all families get behind our fundraising program so that we can achieve the $10000 budgeted for this year.

Recently (5/4/05, Wednesday) Louise Jesshope and Kristi Snares went to the Festival of Choir's soloist Workshop. There was a wonderful jazz singer there named Lillian. It started off with Lillian singing a silly song called 'Old man Mose'. Then we sang all of the solos except for the raps. Before we sang 'It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing' Lillian sang her own version. We had heaps of fun and we are happy that we got the experience in our last year of 'The Festival of Choir'. Kristi and Louise
Recently Breahnn Sheridan was selected to represent the school in SAPSASA Tennis. Throughout the week she played singles and doubles matches each day with a result of many wins and tie-breaker finishes against eight other schools. She was then selected in the Representative team of the most successful 6 girls and 6 boys in the competition. Breahnn said she felt very proud of her success as she has an ambition to continue her tennis career to a high standard. We wish her well and much success in the future.

Several weeks ago, we asked for families to let us know if they were interested in hosting a Korean child in July, at the start of Term 3. Many thanks to all those families who have already indicated that they are willing to host a Korean child, some indeed for a second time. Both our children and families and the Korean children benefited greatly from the home-stay experience in February last. If you are interested in hosting a child in July please contact me at school, as we will soon need to let the organisers know how many children we are able to host this time. Many thanks, Judy Davies
