HEALTHY LIFESTYLES WEEK
Student Comments

My favourite thing for Healthy Lifestyles Week was the Phys-Add testing because I liked the frog jump.  By Daniel R.
I like Healthy Lifestyles Week because it was healthy for me and I liked the fruit they gave to us.  By Yas.
My best thing we did was Tai Chi.  I enjoyed the wild goose.  By Mark L.
I love Healthy Lifestyles Week because it made me healthy and it made me fit.  By Michaela W.
I love going to Blue Dolphin because we had a free choice swim.  By Sarah.
Last week was Healthy Lifestyles Week.  My favourite activity was Tae Kwon Do because it taught us techniques to shield off muggers.
I enjoyed wheel chair sports because we had races and because we learnt how people feel when they live in a wheel chair.  By Meghan
Tai Chi was my favourite because it was so relaxing and it was cool to try something new.  By Louise J.
The Archery was fun and the instructor was really funny.  I didn't get the bullseye but I got the red part that is close to it!  By Chris S.
The Tai Kwon Do was really fun and everyone learnt some self-defence.
We walked over to the retirement home and played Carpet Bowls.  It was heaps of fun.  I hit the white ball first.  We played against the residents.  After we finished, we left the residents in peace.  By Cody C.
This week our class did Tae Kwon Do for about forty minutes.  It was so wicked, we did heaps of blocks where we put them onto the ground and pressed on the pressure point and then ran away from them.  Also lots of kicking and punching.  Later we did Footsteps and danced.  That's what Footsteps are for.  We did Mr Whippy, Loop da Loop and Shake your Tail Feather.  I was embarrassed. By Caleb D.

GALA DAY

The Fundraising Committee was really pleased with our Gala Day. It looks as though we will raise approximately $4000, which is just wonderful. The committee has met since the day to review how it went and to look at ways we can improve for the next time. We would also appreciate your feedback about the day.

At the end of the newsletter, there is a feedback sheet. We would love for you to add your thoughts and return to the front office.
Many thanks. Judy Davies

HEALTHY EATING

The new Healthy Canteen Menu is getting a lot of support as students order and try the healthy food options available. But Healthy Eating doesn’t have to stop at the Canteen!

The food that students bring to school in their lunch boxes can be made healthy, simply and cheaply. Included with the Newsletter this week is a sheet setting out "QUICK, EASY & HEALTHY LUNCH BOX IDEAS" for your child. Take it out of  the  Newsletter  and stick it to the fridge as a ready reference

and reminder, which gives a step-by-step guide to help you pack your child's lunch box.
Eating Healthy is everyone's business!

PARENT WORKSHOP

"Supporting Students With Learning Difficulties" -- Final Reminder
This is the last opportunity to book in for the parent workshop on Tuesday November 22nd.
Time: 7.00 -- 9.00pm
Place: The Long Room

The session will focus on how parents can support students with learning difficulties. It will be facilitated by Ingrid Alderton and Linda Hale.

A flyer went home earlier this week. If you would still like to participate, please return the tear-off slip on the flyer or phone the school to reserve a place.

A BIG THANK YOU TO PARENTS

Every year we are very appreciative of the support given by parents and families, to the students and staff in the many activities, in and out of school hours, that require that extra 'hand' and 'eye'.  The skills and experiences that parents share with classes and individual students adds so much to children’s learning and to our philosophy that we are all learners and all have skills and knowledge to offer each other.

A morning tea to formally thank parents who have given assistance throughout the year, will be held in the Long Room on Monday November 28th at 10:30am.

FUNDRAISING - WINE ORDER

                     Order now for Christmas!
The Fundraising Committee has organised, through Hardy Wine Company, for a special end-of-year Wine Order. There is a selection of good quality wines available by the dozen.  There will be a sample of the selection to see in the Front Office.

Families and friends may place an order through the school. Order forms and details are included with this newsletter. Orders with payment need to be placed by Friday, December 2nd. Collection will be in Week 9.

Please read details on the order form attached to this newsletter.

CHRISTMAS NIGHT

Our annual Christmas Night will be held on the School Oval on Monday December 12th.  Traditionally this is an evening of celebration, an opportunity for the school community to get together  informally  and  sing  some  Christmas  carols  led  by

Page 3

students and be entertained by several items by various groups within the school community.

The Pedal Prix group will provide a sausage sizzle and there will be drinks and icecream available from 6:00pm

A donation of a gold coin will be asked for as you enter the school grounds.  This will help to offset the costs of the evening, which will conclude at approximately 9:15pm

EXCURSIONS

Several exciting excursions have recently taken classes out and about to different environments

Mark Inglis' and D'Arcy Jones' classes visited the Law Courts in Adelaide last week.  This excursion had support by the Education Officer at the Courts and the students experienced viewing Court Proceedings and also enacted the roles undertaken within a court hearing.

Last Thursday Mr Jones' and Mr Ingles' classes went to The Magistrate's Court in Adelaide. To enter the courthouse we had to pass through a machine that checked for any metal objects. After sitting in on some real cases we had a mock court in the same courtroom that tried some murderers that hid their victims in barrels.

We also visited the Central Market for lunch and were amazed how busy it was.

Before getting on the bus to come home we explored Victoria Square where we found the statue of Charles Sturt.

It was a really great day.

Darryl Draper's class has been reading Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and have viewed the 1971 film.  Recently they attended a cinema viewing of the 2005 film and have been able to undertake critical literacy activities around the two films.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was good.  Its special effects were good too.  It was funny but could have been a bit more lifelike.  The 1971 movie was not very funny and the special effects weren't very good but it would have been good back then.  By Mitchell and James
I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  It was different to the first movie and the book.  The Oompaloompoas were funnier than the other Oompaloompas.  By Jack P.
We went to the Noarlunga Cinemas to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for a media study.  Some differences from the book, 1971 and 2005 movie was how they found the golden ticket.  The 2005 movie had better special effects and was funnier.  By Shaun L and Dylan B.

Mr Graham's, Mrs Whisson's and Mrs Atherton's year 3/4 classes spent a day at the beach to reinforce the work being done in class water safety and the environment.

On Monday we went to Glenelg.  We went to the Bay Discovery Centre and we learnt lots of things about how the first people that discovered South Australia landed there in a boat on the beach in front of the Bay Discovery Centre.  We then did a relay race with two teams.  We had to run in the water and stay on our feet and go around the instructor.  It was a bit hard because we had to run in water up to our waist.  By Tom C.

We had loads of fun at the Bay Discovery Centre because I love museums and because there are lots of old things like old ships and Federation.   After that we played with the surf boards but these weren't just any surf board, they had handles on them and they were really cool!  I didn't get the hang of it really well because I kept falling off.  By Renae S

Page 4

First we talked about dangers on the sand and water at the beach.  We learnt to swim in between the red and yellow flags.  We learnt to always wear some kind of shoe so that you don’t get a fishing hook or syringe stuck in your foot!  By Leah S.

When we got there the instructor took us and went through some rules about slip, slop, slap.  We also learnt how to save someone with a float.  By Braden H.

At Brighton beach we learnt about safety, what to do if there's a rip or if someone was drowning.  We learnt how to run in water and how to use safety tubes.  By Deayana
At Brighton beach we had our lunch and then sat down on the grass and the instructors talked about some safety and what we were doing.  Then we got into groups of ten and did activities.  Some of the activities were beach safety, surf boards, beach games and swimming.   By Josh C.
There were many activities such as the flagpole race.  It was lots of fun.  By Anna E.

Margaret Neemann and Lynne Davies' classes will be travelling up to Cleland Reserve in the near future to observe Australian animals in their natural environment.

MIX 102.3 VISIT

We have been contacted by "Kym and the Kids" from MIX 102.3 to confirm a visit from the team, as well as the Channel 9 helicopter.

This will happen next Wednesday, November 23rd.

As our school was nominated by a Junior Primary student in Shelley Saunders' class, most of the activities will centre around Shelley's children. However, all students will be invited to be on the oval to greet the helicopter at 10.45am.

There is a focus on Healthy Eating, as well as a visit from the SA Museum.

ELEANOR IS OFF TO DARWIN

At the weekend I tried out for the 2006 SA National Sub-Junior Calisthenics Team and I made it!  The national competitions will be in Darwin during the 2006 July school holidays.  It's going to be lots of hard work but it will be a great experience.  I want to thank my teacher Miss Chris and my mum and dad for supporting me.
