Tonight our Year 7 Students will celebrate their coming of age as Primary School students. The ceremony will begin at 7.00 pm in the School Hall and everyone is invited to attend this important event in these students' lives.

Following the formal ceremony, where the students will be presented and Class Leadership, Kookaburra Council and Special Recognition Awards will be announced, students will enjoy an evening of dancing to round off the night. The Special Recognition Awards are the Bettie Deering Award for the most outstanding Literary student in Year 7 and the Jo Mellor Award for the most outstanding Mathematics student in Year 7.

The Sandra Kopli Award for the most outstanding Literary student in Year 6 will be presented at the assembly on Friday.

Our Year 7 students will be farewelled by the students and staff at the final assembly on Friday.

We wish our Year 7 students the very best of health and success in their futures.

2006 STAFF SCHOOL STRUCTURE AND STAFF CHANGES

The staff have farewelled a number of staff who will not be at the school in 2006. The List of staff leaving appeared in the last newsletter.

However we are very pleased to announce that our Coordinator Position, advertised across the state was won by Steph Kakoschke.  Congratulations to Steph!  This means that Steph will be teaching in a Year 3/4 class next year.  Her position will last for three years.  We have also been advised that Bob Beaton has been placed here for a year in a PAT position.  He will teach a Year 5/6 class.  Sally Johnson, who was appointed here for 2005 in a school choice position, is returning after parenting leave.  There are still several unknowns.  We are as yet unsure about who will team with Scott Francis on the days when he is providing the PE program.  We are also waiting for the appointment of our language teacher.

The table on the next page shows our complete Year Level structures with teachers and location.

FINAL ASSEMBLY

Reception to Year 7 students and staff will attend a final assembly at 11.00 am tomorrow in the school hall. At the assembly, the school achievements for the year will be recognised, and students and staff who are leaving will be farewelled. Parents are most welcome to attend this final school event for the year.

TIME PAYMENT OF MATERIALS &
SERVICE FEE & EXCURSION LEVY
2006

Happy Valley School would appreciate the school fees and levies paid in full at the beginning of the school year to assist in our planning and budgeting. However, we are aware not all families will be in a position to do this. The school is happy to make a time payment scheme available to parents for the materials & service fees and performance levy with up-front expectations of amounts due and when they need to be paid.

Consequently the time payment scheme the school is offering parents in 2006 is as a four instalment program.  The dates of the payment and scheduled amounts are:

1. Week 1, Term 1         Frid. 3rd February      $105.00
(Performance Levy Inclusive)

2.Week 1, Term 2          Frid. 5th May            $45.00
3.Week 1, Term 3          Frid. 28th  July           $45.00
4.Week 1, Term 4          Frid. 20th Oct           $45.00

To assist parents, payments may be made by cash, cheque or credit card.  If you wish to use the time payment program for 2006 please complete an "Application for Time Payment", sign it and return it to the school attached to the account for your child(ren) with the first payment of $105.00, before Friday 3rd February 2006.

If the school has no recorded payment by you by 24th February 2006, we will be requesting an interview with you.  Non-payment will result in your account being referred to our Debt Collection Agency and additional expense being incurred in recovering the debt will be passed on to you.  Materials & Services charges (school fees) associated to the education of your child are legally enforceable under the Education Act 1972 Section 106A -- Materials and Services Charge.  Please, if you have financial difficulty, contact Andrea Roberts (school bursar) to avoid such a process.  We will attempt to make arrangements suitable to both parties.  We all have a part to play in the education of your

children and need to work together, not avoid each other, to ensure the best possible outcome for your children.

GOODBYE TO DOUG
For a while!

We wish Doug a very happy year in Scotland and we hope that we hear about his experiences from time to time in our newsletters.  Happy travels Doug from the school community.

FATHER CHRISTMAS VISITS HAPPY VALLEY

Father Christmas dropped in to Happy Valley for a short visit on Wednesday morning and visited all of the Junior Primary classes, giving each child a small treat.  The children were really surprised!  Thanks to the Parent Club for organising the visit when Father Christmas has such a busy schedule at this time of year.

TRAFFIC MONITORS

To begin 2006 Morgan, Jeremy and Ben are on duty on the first day of Term 1, Monday 30th January.  Thank you boys for volunteering.

RECORDER CONCERTS

Recorder students, together with their teacher Julie Kuchel, gave two performances to parents and friends in their recorder lesson time on Tuesday 29th November.  Well over forty audience members enjoyed the variety of music presented on descant and treble recorders.  Students ranged from Year 2 to Year 7.

We also thank Julie for her dedication and commitment to teaching these students each week and hope that students will continue to practise during the holidays so that they are well prepared for next year's program.

A Message from Julie --
Fun Recorder for Year 2's in 2006.

Have you thought about your Yr 2 child starting Recorder classes in 2006?  They are part of the instrumental music programme and are held in small groups on a Tuesday.

School approved recorders are reasonably priced and available from me (Julie Kuchel -- Recorder Teacher) if your child decides to join.  Tuition fees are also reasonable - $23 per term.

Enrolment details will be available early in the school year.  Have a safe and happy Christmas and I look forward to meeting many new students in Term 1.

PRINCIPAL'S AWARDS

Congratulations to the following students who have received Principal's Awards at the last Primary Assembly, for demonstrating our school values.  They are -- Kiara Allen, Declan Brandenburg, Jesse Moore, Shane Stagg, Caleb Daniels, Jaimee Walden, Jacinta White, Stephanie Hommelhoff, Sean Bache, Amy Cotterill, Scott Goldfinch, Lachie Schofield, Lerien Otto, Nathan Brown,

CHRISTMAS NIGHT

The weather conditions prohibited the Christmas Night from going ahead, for the first time in ten years.   This was a shame as a great deal of preparation by the school community goes into organising food, rehearsing items and setting up equipment.  We would like to thank all of those people who contributed their time in any way.  The items, however, were presented in the Hall on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior primary classes presented a series of songs together with actions and a story line.  The enthusiasm of these students is a good sign of the performance talent in the school

Mr Graham's and Mrs Whisson's classes sang two songs, O Tannenbaum (in German) and Ding Dong Merrily on High and their item was followed by Mrs Atherton's class performing two versions of 'The Night Before Christmas', the traditional words and a very lively rendition of a rap version.  The Christmas choir completed the afternoon with a bracket of well known carols.

BREAD FOR SALE!

An unfortunate result of the cancellation of Christmas Night is the loaves of bread that had been pre-ordered.  If you would like to purchase loaves of bread (which were frozen fresh), they are for sale for $1.00 ea.   Please contact the front office with your order.

JAPANESE MASTER CALLIGRAPHER WORKSHOP

Jim Graham's class was fortunate enough to take part in a workshop with a National Living Treasure Artist of Japan last week.

This was a wonderful introduction to the Japanese culture and the art of Calligraphy.  The students enjoyed watching the demonstration and copying their name from the "Master's" artwork.

Thanks to the parents who assisted with transport.  They also found this a very worthwhile learning experience.

BETHSALEM PERFORMANCE

Last week several Junior Primary classes and our Primary Christmas Choir visited Bethsalem and performed a variety of Christmas music to a delighted audience of staff and residents.  Some items were accompanied by saxophone and we look forward to hearing more of Jordan Goudy's talents next year.

The time spent mingling afterwards is always a positive occasion for residents and students alike.

RESOURCE CENTRE

Wanted -- old telephone books and old VCR tapes.  We will use these to wrap and make into signs on our shelves.

MS Readathon
Congratulations to the 28 children who read 509 books to raise $1,456.80 for this worthy cause.  Well done.

SPORT

BASKETBALL
Another successful year of school basketball is behind us.  We had some new teams that fought very hard every game and managed to get some wins.  We also had some experienced teams that won many games by many goals.  Well done to every player that tried and learned new skills.

Thanks again to the dedicated few that are prepared to coach, manage, drive and encourage their children in basketball.  Well done.

Please get your forms in early if you wish to participate in basketball next year.  If anyone is interested in coaching a team, please let me know.
