Inside this issue......... |
We welcome all school families as we begin another school year. It is always great to see students catching up with friends again after the holiday break, settling in to their new class areas and talking with their new teachers on the first day back. A new school year is an exciting time especially for students, but also families, and believe it or not, even for teachers! The first day saw lots of very busy teachers and students - all settled back really well and many were exploring the new "Smartboards", which were installed in all classrooms during the holidays. Let's all work together to make this a really enjoyable, productive and memorable year.

We would like to welcome our new Reception students who started school yesterday. Our nine new children are in Mrs K's class in Unit 4. They are Tyler Clark, Liam Cremin, April Goudy, Rowan Jordon, James O'Grady, Nour Sadaka, Tyler Sage, Annalise Stahl and Billy Trueman.
A welcome also, to our new families -- it is wonderful that you have chosen Happy Valley School as the starting point for your child's learning journey. We look forward to working with you over the next years. We would like to extend a welcome too, to a number of other children and their families, who are also new to our school.
All families should have received notes about our Acquaintance Night, which is planned for next Tuesday, Week 2, February 6th. We invite all parents and care-givers to attend -- this is a valuable opportunity to learn about learning programs in our school.
A creche is provided from 6.00 -- 8.10pm in the Resource Centre, for parents who cannot make alternative arrangements and is supervised by the specialist teaching staff. Bookings at the Front Office are essential.
Please Remember: * Children need to be under supervision and should not be in the yard or in classrooms. |

For copies of the invoices sent home last December, the instalment plan arrangements and application forms for School Card, please contact Andrea Roberts in the Front Office. A Reminder:- Governing Council has endorsed the policy that students will not be included in excursions/performances until their $45 performance levy has been paid.
SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS Have you thought about being involved in the governance of the school through membership of the Governing Council or on one of the sub-committees that are looking for parent representation? Please forward the tear-off slip included to the school as soon as possible indicating your interest. It's a decision you won't regret and we look forward to meeting you at the AGM. booked into the Out of School Hours Care. This is very important as staff are not on duty until 8.30 and therefore students are not supervised if they do arrive early.
Students will participate in the following swimming/aquatic programs in Term 1, as part of our health and physical education program. All parents will receive a separate invoice for their child's swimming/aquatic program shortly.
We keep important family information in the front office. This is vital information if we need to contact parents in an emergency. Please ensure, if there is a change in any of your family details, for example, addresses, phone numbers, emergency contacts, that you update this information in the Front Office.
As you would have noticed the two wooden portables that in the past housed OSHC have been removed in the holidays. The company who did the work did a great job, limiting the disruption to the school by completing the work before children returned from the holidays. We will now have to look at how we will use the area and re-develop it accordingly.
Our School offers a range of opportunities for students to learn to play a musical instrument. As students become more proficient in their instruments, there are opportunities to perform -- at assemblies and at music evenings. Learning an instrument is a wonderful skill to develop at an early age and enjoy for life. Music Education, including instrumental playing, can also enhance a child's development in many other areas of learning. This year all students, beginning and continuing to learn an instrument, must complete an Application to Learn a Musical Instrument form. These are available from the Front Office. All applications to learn will be considered by the class teacher, the instrumental teacher and the school instrumental music coordinator (Doug MacLean) before approval is given for students to learn. |
Recorder
-- teacher Mrs Julie Kuchel All Year 2 - 7 students are invited to enrol to learn recorder. The fee structure for this year is:

Our Edible Garden Committee is looking for more families to become involved in the co-ordinating of the garden. A meeting once a term and general tidy up each start of a season is all that is involved as well as watering during holidays when necessary. The other way to help is in the class to supervise when planting takes place and weeding once a week. The students learn from our garden, not only how to grow things, but also the continuous responsibility of looking after a garden. Please complete the tear off slip if you are interested.
Welcome back to school. I hope you all had a good holiday. Due to an increase in prices, a new menu (purple in colour) was sent home this week. If you didn't receive one, please pick a copy up from the Canteen or front office. A 'Help' form was also sent home asking for volunteers. If you can spare some time and also see how the canteen operates, please give me a ring on 8322 6579. I look forward to seeing you. |
I welcome any suggestions or feed back regarding the menu. We will be holding a Canteen Committee Meeting shortly, the date and time will be advertised in a future newsletter.

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer in the Learning
Assistance Program in 2007? Volunteers, in partnership with teaching staff, work with students on a one-to-one basis, for a regular session each week. This individual time creates more learning situations where students can experience success. Our volunteers find helping in LAP a positive and rewarding experience and we always have children who can benefit from your help. LAP has get togethers at least once each term with both students and volunteers. These get togethers are a great sharing time for the volunteers, new friends are made and new skills shared. The LAP Association has training available during the year for volunteers. Please fill in and return the attached form to the front office or speak to Wendy Nicolle or Judy Davies. Wendy Nicolle
We have two Over Head Projectors that are not needed anymore. If you would like one, come in and make us an offer. Resource Centre Staff |
